What’s lekker in Langebaan this December?

And not just in December – Langebaan is a hidden gem along South Africa’s West Coast that is a holiday-makers haven all year round. Where should we begin? December is a time that Langebaan really comes alive – abuzz with holidaymakers, markets, and more.

On top of the usual list of Langebaan to-do’s, like spending lazy days by the lagoon, exploring the beaches or West Coast National Park, discovering all the cafés and restaurants, kitesurfing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking (I think you get the drift), there are some festive season highlights and some personal inside tips on what to do, and what not to.

Lagoon island canoe adventure

This kayak trip is an invigorating and fun way to explore the Langebaan lagoon safely, with an experienced and informative guide. Our kayaks are stable and easy to paddle and allow you to get close to the wild sea birds, the Cape Fur seals and the swaying kelp fronds of the Great African sea forest. Finish your trip with a great cup of coffee or ice cold beer at one of the restaurants overlooking the beach.

Jet-ski adventures

Not for the faint of heart, this tour has been designed to excite and get the adrenaline pumping, with a 10km jet-ski ride around the blue waters of the Langebaan lagoon. The team is fun, friendly and accommodates all levels of thrill seeking guests. The island is rich in history and you may even spot the elusive white rabbits that came over with the Portuguese explorers.

Sunnypark Fun Park

When the kids have spent their fair share of time at the beach why not take them for some slip and slide fun at Sunnypark Fun Park. It has a super tube waterslide, kiddies swimming pool, Slip ‘n Slide, trampolines, 18-hole mini golf, pedal karts, pool tables and a tuck shop for a cold ice-cream, toastie or cooldrink.

West Coast Distilleries

Something for the adults, the West Coast Distillery is great spot to taste the bespoke spirits of best friend duo, Shaun and Shane.

A Day at Kraal Baai

This has to be one of our favourite summer spots. It’s the perfect day out for family, with kids able to wade in shallow waters, places to picnic and built-in braai facilities too. The drive to get there is a stunning drive through the West Coast National Park, where you can stop to watch birds from the numerous hides and spot buck and other wildlife. Go prepared with all you need for the day as there are no shops in the area, and once you get there you won’t want to leave until sunset.

Langebaan Indoor Market

Langebaan Market Day where some of Langebaan’s best wares are sold. Come soak up the atmosphere, unique gifts, tasty treats, and all-round feast for the eyes. And who says last minute Christmas shopping has to be in a busy mall, abuzz with crazed shoppers!

Market days: December 12th and 23rd

So, whether it’s an action-packed day of fun in the sun, or a leisurely stroll through the quirky local market, Langebaan, as clichéd as it may sound, has something to offer everyone.

Sea, salt air and sunshine. Everything you could want in one place on your West Coast Christmas sojourn.
